The Infeld string system was designed to give players and makers a way to balance the tonal characteristics of a violin while maintaining an even and consistent response. This can be very difficult to do when combining strings of different brands or from different manufacturers.
With the Infeld system one has a choice of using the Infeld Red to achieve a darker tone, or the Infeld Blue to bring out more brilliant tonal characteristics. Regardless of how the strings are combined to achieve tonal balance, the characteristic response if even and consistent from string to string and throughout the tonal register.
Similar in construction to the best-selling Dominants, the Infeld system is designed to provide strings of contrasting tonal characteristics that may be used interchangeably while still maintaining eveness of tension and response. Infeld Blues tend towards a more brilliant sound, while Infeld Reds usually produce a darker and warmer tone.
